Tumor microenvironment is amongst others composed of inflammatory cells including macrophages, blood vessels, and extracellular matrix components. There is evidence for similar mechanisms in the interaction between tumors cells and their microenvironment in different tumor entities. The influence of macrophages is studied in human tumors (uveal melanoma, basal cell carcinoma etc.) and in a mouse model of general tumor biology.
